The Carriageworks Action Group (CAG) was an alliance of residents, business owners and people from organisations local to Stokes Croft active from 2011 to 2023. It worked alongside Bristol City Council and other involved parties to address the dereliction of the Carriageworks and Westmoreland House sites, which had been lying in increasing disrepair for over 25 years.
It was essential that the redevelopment of the sites make a positive contribution to the local area and the CAG devoted over a decade to ensure that this was the case. It engaged with stakeholders to form a vision for the sites that met the needs and wants of the local community and closely monitored the redevelopment to make sure that plans were adhered to and promises were kept.
It is thanks to the CAG that the Carriageworks is what it is today and residents of the new development are grateful for the hard work of all of its collaborators, which has created a vibrant, interesting and community-focussed place to live.
Although the CAG is no longer active, an archive of their extensive and impressive work is available to view at carriageworksbs6.wordpress.com.
